Howaback Wildflower Meadow

Harray

59 degrees north were approached to create a landscape design for a field adjacent to a new build house on the shores of Harray Loch.

The field had severe drainage issues and was poor grazing land dominated by wind blown dock weeds. The design solved the drainage issues by creating a drainage channel and an island as a focal point. The top soil was cleared to form mounds to boundary to provide shelter and privacy. 200 tons of sand was then imported and used to capp the site to reduce fertility and provide favourable conditions for a wildflower meadow. The site was seeded with wildflowers and trees were planted. A new timber fence to match the domestic boundary was installed to unify the site.
