59 degrees north is an architecture and landscape design practice based in Stromness, Orkney. We take inspiration from the outstanding natural beauty of our local land and seascapes and tailor our designs to the individual requirements of our clients and the unique character of their site. We believe architecture can elevate our everyday experiences and make enjoyable places to live without costing the earth.

We put the client at the centre of the design process with meaningful discussions that allow us to get to

know them and find a solution that really works.

We have a sensitive and sensible approach to promoting sustainable design, using natural materials where possible. We have a respect for the unique Orkney landscape and design our buildings to sit and weather well in the landscape. We draw on traditional building form, materials and construction techniques while utilising the best of modern building technology. We design our buildings with an understanding of the unique Orkney climate and aim to maximise the enjoyment of long summer evenings and create shelter from the worst of the weather.

We have a range of projects including small extensions to existing houses, house renovations and new build houses. We also design landscape projects from domestic gardens, natural playparks to large public parks.
